For older buildings with asbestos cement roofs, removal is disruptive and costly. A safer alternative is over‑cladding: fitting a new metal roof over the existing one. This begins by fixing a framework to the purlins under the asbestos sheets. Insulation is placed within this framework—often a proprietary spacer system like Ash Grid — and the metal weather sheets are secured to bars that act like purlins. Ash Grid was the first spacer system for built‑up metal roofing and remains an industry leader thanks to continuous innovation. Its new ABV bracket has four points of contact with the bar and does not require sway brackets. Installation follows a simple three‑step method, and Safe‑Loc spigots ensure fast, secure joints without extra fixings. The system is offered in a wide range of bracket heights and configurations, and more than 55 million metres have been installed over the past 15 years—evidence of its reliability.
